Dutch Families

About 1692 Andries Lammers marries in Oosterwolde with Tjeltje Berend. His eldest son and
some other children are baptized with the surname Berkhof. Where does this name come from? Is
it a farm name, or does it come from the nearby bulwark `Bekhof´? In the direct vincinity traces
are found of another Berghof, Bekhof and Berkhoven family. Living namebearers are unknown.
It was around 1790 that Jacubus van den Berkhof´s family could be met at the "Choorsteegje near the Jacobikerk" in the city of Utrecht. Still un-
known is if he is the "Lunteren-Jacobus" who was born in 1763 in Vianen. This Utrecht genealogy must be seen as a raw draft; made by using the di-
gital archive Genlias. Research in archives is necessary to verify and complete it. Descendants (Van den Berkhof and Berkhof) are especially found in Utrecht.

Did the father of Henricus Berkhof (* ±1740) of the Standdaarbuiten family tree came from the
Berkhof-farmhouse in the nearby village of Overa, or was he perhaps a descendant of the Middel-
harnis or even the Maasluis family tree?  Descendants have especially been found in Willemstad,
Nieuw Gastel, Standdaarbuiten, Hoge and Lage Zwaluwe, Oosterhout and Rotterdam. This family
tree is also known as Oosterhout.
